Everything I've read has been VERY disappointing. I knew it wouldn't match Sandy Bridge, but I was hoping for it to be at least on par with Nahalem. This would have been a good CPU when they announced it 4 years ago, but damn. Guess I'm sticking with Intel for my next build. _________________ CPU: Intel Core i5-3570k

It doesn't seem that bad, especially reading the anandtech review it seems that if you oc it to the 4.6+ghz range it will easily out-perform anything. The gaming performance is sad, but for workstation/workplace environment, I would definitely choose AMD as the price/perf is better and you don't need all the "shiny" stuff with Intel.
Amd just works and like they said as it gets better I see amd returning. If this is like how the p4 was, then that means the next one in a few years.. well hmm...

yup the processor is bad at 4.6 if u look at guru3d.com review still cant beat a stock i7 980x and also the power draw on this processor is just ridiculously High. back in Evga Forum Mad People are Converting to intel 2600k and selling there Socket AM3 + Mobo's they been waiting for a long time for theese bulldozer after all those delays expecting it will beat the current i7 but to no avail it is very disappointing. u better off wit Pile Driver after bulldozer. its much better to get an i7 2600k which is a very good overclocker it can hit 5.0 ghz wit good cooling wit almost all batches. plus its only like 70 dollars more. a 4.6 ghz 2600k vs 4.6 bulldozer the 2600k will put it to shame its not even a competetion. Not To mention the Person Behind The Buldozer Project Dirk Meyer Stepped Down Months Before Bulldozer Was Released well he knows the project was a failure and it is.

To put it very simple, the hardware needs the software in order to shine. However, the problem remains that most software anno 2011 certainly doesn't multi-thread as well as we all would have hoped.
Most applications go for two, maybe four cores. It's already hard to utilize six threads simultaneously, let alone eight. As such, per-core performance is much more important than more processor cores.
That is a matter of time though, I mean we had the single core to dual-core revolution, quickly followed by four, six and thus now eight cores. So where multithreaded applications are programmed right AMD really starts to shine with the FX series.
Same thing back then when x2 was faster then x4 on the softwareside.
I think its too early to go for 8 cores. You will maybe benefit from it when the next Console Generation arrives and 8 cores getting fully utilized, but Intel will have next gen Cpus out by then, that make this amd FX- series look pretty old.
so this release fails in 2011 +1
On the other hand: This should be a good futureproof choice on the longrun when you wanna upgrade now. Vga Power matters much more these days anyways.. _________________ ______________________________

geez man those bulldozer results are just pathetic what waste of money. might as well get the cheaper phenom 2 1100T and overclock it. _________________ i7 3930k @ 4.6

It's bad for the money yes, better off with a phenom but to these people saying amd sucks etc. that's not true. It's a work in progress compare hd 4 series to the 5 when ati shit on fermi ver. 1 it was only ver. 2 when nvidia caught up and the next gen is anyone's guess.

did u say the HD 5 series shit on GTX 480? cuz as far as im concern looking all the benchmarks the Nvidia GTX 480 Fermi Gen 1 shit on ATi HD 5000 series i could give u all the benches if u want. Honestly AMD prolly will never caught up with intel for a long time with the coming Sandy Bridge E AMD has NOthing to counter that heck they dont even have something to counter the i7 980x line of cpu's which is just plain pathetic "I bet Intel is Laughing their ass off" Maybe Pile Driver which they said its only 15 percent faster than bulldozer Lmao! what a joke, then when that comes out Intel will counter it Ivy bridge wit 3d Transistor Technology And theres no way pile driver is faster than that and i can bet money on it.
Edit: Hitler Founds Out Bulldozer Benchmarks Lol this is EPIC!

While I can live with the crappy performance, the power draw is what I am really disappointed with. It only seems to be able to match a 2500K in heavily threaded benchmarks, but it uses TWICE THE POWER. They are moving in the wrong direction here- efficiency is the name of the game these days. Intel brought out a chip 20%-40% more powerful that uses half the power. AMD brought a chip that's about the same performance but uses more power. I really, really wanted AMD to get back on track to keep the competition going, but they really bombed it here. And yea, they may be making it 10-15% better in another year, but what about Ivy Bridge? That's going to be a jump the magnitude of what Sandy Bridge was to Nahalem. I'm starting to doubt AMD will ever come back.
I will give them this though- the new APU's are fantastic. I have set up several systems with these chips and they are quick and run cool. I think AMD has a real future in the portable market if they keep working on these APUs. _________________ CPU: Intel Core i5-3570k
