I pretty much exclusively listen to underground hiphop artists. The only mainstream hiphop/rap I'd mix in with the underground stuff I listen to now is basically Wu Tang Clan, Tribe Called Quest, and a very select few other legitimate groups and artists.
I was a die hard Outkast fan for awhile and about the only CD's of theirs I'd mix in are the first three everything after was pretty much too sub par to deserve it.
As to the stuff I listen to now it's pretty much exclusively stuff like Army of the Pharaohs/Snowgoons/Jedi Mind Tricks/Non Phixion/Demigodz related type of rap artists and other just dope rap and hip hop like Grieves, Zion I/Living Legends, Swollen Members, Styles of Beyond, Mr Lif, Self Scientific, Necro, Dead Prez, Binary Star, Twin Perils, Immortal Technique, ect...real shit I don't listen to the radio I find rap/hip hop the old school I dig around to find shit mostly on undergroundhiphop though since they have a better collection of legit shit then most places, but sometimes you'll find stuff on amazon lists that catch your eye or through looking into a artist you liked in a collabo of another legit artist you all ready liked.
Best overall album I've heard this year thus far is Eligh & Amp Live - Therapy At 3 shit's straight dope hip hop start to finish. Zion I - Heroes In The Healing Of The Nation would probably by my close second choice also Grieves newest album is pretty legit.
As far as hardcore rap album of the year I've listened to atm it's probably Apathy Honkey Kong that shit is pretty fucking fire imo though there is a lot tighter competition for album of the year in that category.

I'll probably checkout that Chief Kamachi album at some point since he's involved with a bunch of undergorund hiphop cats I'm into.
Too Short's I love the bay album was pretty dope too the Zion I collabo on it is notably great as expected and "Lose it" had a nuts up tempo party beat, but "In the Street" off that album was a pleasant surprise due to the fantastic usage of sampling something I defiantly recognize and appreciate as a fan of hip hop from the lyrics down the beat making.
Anyway it takes the chorus from "We will rock you" and changes it around to give it a different kind of context and meaning instead of the chorus hook going something like this
Buddy you're a boy make a big noise
Playin' in the street gonna be a big man some day
they switched it up and turned it into the following
Buddy you're a boy in the street
In the street
Buddy you're a boy in the street
In the street gonna be a big man some day
Speaking of a song with sampling another worth mention is on Apathy's Honkey Kong album called "check to check" it's got dope use of a classic sample from Outkast.
Link to "in the street". A quick youtube search turned up nothing for me. thx.
The album is "I Love The Bay by Too $Hort & Friends" album is not really a strictly Too Short album but a Bay Area compilation album of local rapper association. If you do a search for "Turf Talk- In the Street" on youtube it comes up though. I'm not sure who did the production on the track possibly too short, but a good track regardless. Hadn't realized it was by Turf Talk until just now who's apparently E40's cousin who's pretty well known bay area rapper until I tried to find you a link btw here it is.

I like all styles of rap/hiphop when it's legit and they keep it real not just payola radio play type shit. Bay Area rap/hiphop has it's own feel it's generally always got that deep slap bass going on.
Here's some stuff you'll probably like. I'll add more later

GRIM MOSES
ENPSYCHLOWPEDIA SATANIKA
Quote:
ENPSYCHLOWPEDIA SATANIKA
This album is a representation of the practices of some orginizations, religeons and passtimes.GRIM MOSES uses metaphors and concept to describe the use of the lower level mind state. His approach is one that describes the monster with in people of power and the apathy of the people who carelessly show no concern for the evils that exist within the seemingly passionate society in which we live.

Anything by Esoteric/Esoteric & 7L is worth a listen and his latest album Boston Pharaoh is no exception to that.
Always good use of classic hip hop samples in his shit and top notch lyrics and delivery no gimmicks necessary I love how he can rap with perfect flow completely in a completely monotone voice and completely convey what he's talking about. True emcee's are able to do that and don't have to rely on selling the punchlines to get felt. Here's my favorite songs on the album.
MC Esoteric - Mickey Mouse Sh-t
(the sampling is on point) the Mickey Mouse BULLSHIT Mickey Mouse BULLSHIT Mickey Mouse BULLSHIT MIC is the KEY it's what I USE MIC is the KEY it's what I USE MIC is the KEY it's what I USE!
MC Esoteric - Guns, Germs, And Steel (this track is dope too I'm pretty certain the beat sampled throughout the song is from the old school Nintendo game Dragon Warrior)
Columbo Black - Fruitless Endeavor:
