Here are some snaps of the evga Akimbo cooler that I took before installing them. Sorry if the pics are too large, but I thought you may want to see some detail.
As I stated in the other thread, if you have a 8800GT you should really consider getting this cooler.
evga is selling them for $39.99 a pop. _________________ i7/930 - Noctua NH-C12P

Have you seen any solid reviews on the net for this cooler? I haven't. Maybe I could write one up and use your pics....hmmm. _________________ Intel i7 950 @ 4GHz - ASUS P6T Deluxe V2

I have not seen any photos or reviews. Only a few comments on the temperature drops that are very similar to what I reported, (idle temps dropped 10-12 degrees Celsius, and about 15-17 degrees Celsius drop under load). I really wanted to get a pic underneath the cooler's cover, but it seems like the decal would be damaged trying to access the screws.
The real magic may be in the BIOS that evga is supplying for these coolers. _________________ i7/930 - Noctua NH-C12P

The gtx cooler is definitely longer...but on another note and somewhat ot (sry) those specs they have listed for the 9800 look pitiful. If those are correct the 9800 won't be any faster than the 8800gts making the 8800gtx and ultra STILL the top dog card to own.
..anyways I almost have the review finished for the Akimbo Cooler thanks again for allowing me to use the pics and your specs. Any little details you would like me to add like installation procedures or applying thermal compound just jot it down. Doesn't look much different than the 8800gtx pcb and I've changed out a few of those so it should be similar to install. _________________ Intel i7 950 @ 4GHz - ASUS P6T Deluxe V2

Good call Semp! I hust measured the Akimbo and it's right around 10" and VR-Zone says the 9800GTX is 10.5".
Here's a link to the forum page where evga links to the revised BIOS files and their installation instructions.
The only additions that I would make to the evga instructions are:
1. When removing the stock heat sink; a. break loose all screws, (some are rather tight), about 1/8 turn. b. Alternate in a cross pattern from screw to screw, loosening each only one turn of the screwdriver at a time, until all are removed.
2. If using an alternate thermal paste especially if conductive like AS5, make sure that you only use just enough to cover the GPU.
3. Be careful when first setting the heatsink down on the graphics card, and try to align it as close as possible. You really don't want to scoot it around too much.
4. Tighten the screws is a cross pattern with only one turn of the screwdriver on each screw at a time, to try and adjust the pressure evenly as the heatsink puts pressure on the components. _________________ i7/930 - Noctua NH-C12P

vläd, thanks for the pics. and details. I just got my Akimbo cooler and have some additional questions.
Are we supposed to remove the big, square, gray thing on the back of the back-side cooler? Also, are we supposed to remove the clear plastic sticking to the back of the "U" shaped pipe?

Thanks.
Grey thing: That's the thermal material that transfers the heat to the back side cooler, so it needs to stay exactly where it is.
Clear Plastic on the heat pipe: I believe that is there to prevent accidental shorting of the solder points of the card. It will not improve cooling to remove it, so leave it in place where it is when you initially received the parts.
To my knowledge, the only thing that should be removed is the tape and wrapping around the main cooler piece. Anything else should stay the way it was when you unwrapped everything. _________________ i7/930 - Noctua NH-C12P

Woah you mean to tell me AS5 is electricity conductive? I read it wasnt that is why i bought it, now im worried about using this stuff because what can go wrong will go wrong with my luck.
Thanks for the pictures too, Might have to get me one of them for my 8800 gt at a later date.

Not Electrically Conductive:
Arctic Silver 5 was formulated to conduct heat, not electricity.
(While much safer than electrically conductive silver and copper greases, Arctic Silver 5 should be kept away from electrical traces, pins, and leads. While it is not electrically conductive, the compound is very slightly capacitive and could potentially cause problems if it bridges two close-proximity electrical paths.) _________________ CPU:i7 930 @ 3.8 HSF:NH-C12P SE14 Mobo:P6X58D-E Memory:GSkill 6G @2000 Graphics:SLI Leadtek 8800gts 640mb257.21

hmmm...
My bad, I thought since AS5 contained silver, it would be electronically conductive. I would still be careful with it though, from the Arctic Silver site...
