Hi all,
I just have bought my 3870X2 yesterday after work, and of course I used the new Xtreme-G Catalyst 8.3 (before that I was on Nvidia).

When i've got free time i will try some game and other Semp Xtreme-G release.

For now no problems for dvd playback and divx, just a strange bug in CSS Benchmark that have worried me: it is stuck at 62 fps at all video settings, after some tweaking (disable X-crossfire etc.) same results, so i lanch the game with fear and BANG 299 fps at all the time (a little drop to 270 sometimes) at AA 8x Aniso 16x, ouf I smile again.

Thanks a lot Semp keep the good work I will give feedback (maybe tonight)

And please excuse my Frenglish (a mix of English and French Smile )

I finally got some benchs done on my 3870X2:
3Dmark06 with Q6600 @ 3.6, Xtreme-G 8.3: 18711

After that I return my cpu to it's everyday frequency (3300MHz) for css roundup of Xtreme-G 8.2 and 8.3, with my actual gameplay settings (no HDR, no Color Correction, AntiAlasing 8x and Aniso 16x @ 1680*1050 res.).
as I said the benchmark module is buggy, so I record my own demo in de_aztec, I'm terro with 9 bots, go trough the footbridge kill two CT and jump into the water to go bombsite B (58 seconds).
And I timedemo my aztec record two times, keep the second score.

8.3 with ati AI to low other settings to defaultt: 213.04 fps
8.2 before install of CCC : 228.16 fps
8.2 with ati AI to low other settings to default again: 234.75 fps
8.2 just to know I also have disable the crossfire of my 3870X2 with AtiTrayTools: 153.01 fps

The difference in fps between 8.2 and 8.3 Xtreme-G is marginal, but more important I feel the gameplay less laggy on the 8.2.

Thanks again Semp, it's a pity there's no feedback for this release, so I have do some.

did you think it's possible to unlock the ATI overdrive limitation of the frequencies when whe overclock ?

feel free to correct my words, my english write capabilities are very low.

Hi everyone!!!!!! Very Happy it's been a long time i haven't come here, have got much problemes but for now all thnigs are fix, so i am back to rock those damn drivers that nvidia and ati are feeding us with, in our endless quest fort the ultimate drivers i'll be pleased to be acepted as a beta driver tester, since i've my new rig with an hd3870x2.

Ok! now about the xg 8.3, those got somes big problemes such as stranges lag during game, even if i've got à ping of 50, i got a lag of 2 sec, every 30 sec, don't know why, but this is bothering, i don't have this probleme with the xg 8.2, but official 8.3 got this problems, don't know if it's only for me, but i think ati really trash those drivers, hopes the 8.4 will be better than thoses.
I also got somes fps decreasing in many games and in benchmark such as 3mark 03

XG 8.2
3Dmark 03
63721

XG 8.3
3dmark 03
62917

loosing more than 800 points between the 2 drivers, but i think this is because of the crossfireX, new technologies = new problemes Rolling Eyes

i hope my pos will help many of you to choose your drivers.

Ok guy, i've tested with 3dmark 06:
xg 8.2
14445

xg 8.3

9654 Shocked

there is big probleme with the 8.3, many people experience lag and fps decreasing when playing or benchmarking.

I switched back to the xg 8.2 and now everythings fine.
Good day for everyones!!

thanks for your feedback, I have totally forgot that I have modified some value before my 3Dmark06 bench.

And don't forget that for this test my Q6600 was @ 3600 and my DDR2 @ 1200 5.5.5.15

I'have tested with Deep Freeze as a reference (value are as i remember so 80fps can be 82 fps -> not less than 80, not more than 85):
First try: 40fps
I have disable Catalyst AI: 60 fps
Oveclocked my 3870X2 to GPU 845 RAM 955: 80 fps
i think the real bottleneck of the 3870X2 is the RAM speed

Also to mention tha to play CSS you must have the Catalyst AI activated: At Advanced settings (It's activated in Advanced mode by default in the Xtreme-G 8.3), I've got some lag in CSS, but in standard mode there's a lot less.

Method I use to finally have a Xtrem-G 8.3 without lag under CSS (finalized at 4 this morning after multiple try and modification of the settings, GMT+4 Smile )
1 I've installed N2O 8.3 drivers (found it less laggy) and saved it's 3d profile with ATT
2 uninstalled the N2O
3 Installed the Xtreme-G 8.3 (backed up is settings too just in case)
4 Activate the N2O 8.3 profile
5 Turn the Mip-Map level to Quality (it was High quality) don't need to turn the catalyst AI to low as it already was.
6 play CSS online 2 hours no more lags and a real smooth game.
7 run my timedemo aztec: 277.06 fps variability 30.799 (so I've got more fps and less variabilty than the before 40 fps variabilty)
8 Save the 3D profile "Sirob Smile"

and voila !
Best result and gameplay in CSS I've got in my tests of 8.2 and 8.3 from Ati, Xtreme-G and N2O

Just to see I'm going to reboot my pc and run 3DMark 06 again, but I don't really care about my score because what is important is my CSS gameplay (some highends solo games too) not a synthetic benchmark.

If it can help somebody I'll upload somewhere my ATT profile if I can find where it is !

Edit: This 8.3 really don't like 3DMark 06 Twisted Evil Deep freeze down to 53 fps (CPU @ 3.47, AI off). I can't recommend the 8.3 for those who like benchs. As you said 8.3 dislike 3DMark06, if I found the time I'll try to redoo my 18000+ score but now I'm going to play some CSS Very Happy .

Hey are ya french sirob coz i am From Oleron island in charente maritime ^^.
So you have delete the permanent lag under xg 8.3, good new, but in your mind which is the best modded driver for now, the 8.2 or the 8.3?
Coze i found the 8.2 really better than the 8.3, even if i tried many setting within the driver or with the new att 1.4.7.1149 taht support the new hd3xxx, but i can't find the good settings.
Effectevly the ram frequencies of the hd3870x2 can limit the performance, but with a little oc i think it can be better.
For now with xg 8.2 everythings fine, so i really hesitate to switch to the 8.3.
M3SM3R

edit : i send ya a PM.

hi M3SM3r,
yes I'm a french from Reunion Island (l'ile de la Réunion le soleil, les plages, sa culture d'herbe locale ...).
I think you must stick to your Xtreme-G 8.2 unless you whant to do some tricks, the catalyst 8.3 includes a lot of new features that are not really mature, let's see the 8.4 (entre nous les 8.3 a optimiser c'est vraiment la prise de tête).

I would have thought so, but its certain that 3DMark06 dislike the catalyst 8.3, I will install Xtreme-G 8.2 to give it a try.

Effectevly goz, your 3dmark06 score is really near an hd3870x2, but i think this is because of the driver, the card is brand new, and it's also a dual gpu card, the next driver will improve it's performance (hopes so).
for the moment like sirob i stay with xg 8.2, don't wanna have some lage while playing, it's really bothering me a lot when i get fragged beacause of a damn lag Twisted Evil Cool

Your welcome, the work you do by pushing further the quality (always) and speed (if possible) is invaluable for us.

Thanks again Laughing

With the Xtrem-G 8.2 my 3DMark test was 18816, take note tha it was impossible to reproduce the relatively good results posted before after the reinstall of 8.3, I am now stuck to the 16000 points (what a pity Wink ).

I have redo my trick of N2O 8.3 profil for Xtreme-G 8.3 driver that's the less laggy of all for my online game.

Let's see the 8.4 coming (soon I hope).
