Gotta say, pretty disappointing. But really, what kind of boost was I expecting from a few extra CUDA cores? Unless this thing launches at $450 or less, I don't see people jumping all over it. Especially not with the GTX 460 being such a good value. _________________ CPU: Intel Core i5-3570k

At this point on the calendar, we should be hearing more about the replacement of the GF100 chip instead of nVidia actually getting all of the 512 shaders working on the current GF100.
We need a cooler chip that can reach higher clocks. _________________ i7/930 - Noctua NH-C12P

Despite the large triple-fan cooler running at 92 percent, the card managed to hit 94 degrees Celsius, which is practically insane considering the sheer size of the cooler.
It is still unclear if such a card will ever be available and if Nvidia will ever stand behind such a card, but one thing is clear, it just doesn't make sense. (And it could very easily fall under the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty. sub.ed.)

Interesting - looks like the extra SP's don't make a huge difference. Figures, given that a 470 isn't much slower than a 480 at the same clocks.
I'm also a bit dubious about the cooling setup - my Icy Vision knocked over 30c off load temps. I'm not sure how much of it's down to a budget stock cooler - when I took mine of it looked like the TIM had been applied with a trowel, so if you've got a stock version it's probably worth sticking some decent TIM on as a minimum.
It's definitely a case of cooling holding clocks back - my 470 is very happy at 750 now (bumped the voltage up a notch).
I agree about expecting details of the GF100 replacement (at the very least a die shrunk 100b). A full fat GF100 is too late to be relevant now, especially since the 460 showed what they could turn it into. _________________ CPU: i7 860 @ 3.8ghz (Corsair H100/Noiseblocker M12-P)

If it was really 512 you would see an increase in ROPs, Memory bandwidth and many other things
They modified the bios to show 512 shaders :\
I could easily make it say 960 cuda core(shader cores) and totally remove the ability to do AA and all that and make it show an increase of 232%
-----
You would see the return of 448bit and the thing wouldn't be called 480GTX 512SP instead it would be called the 485GTX or if they are really pulling the tree 480GTX+ the memory would be between 1792MB-2016MB
ROPs instead of being 48 they would have to be between 52-64
It would if made into todays market have either 4 6 pins or 2 8pins _________________
